Patriot Day is a day in memory of the people killed in the September 11 attacks of the year 2001.
During the aftermath of the attacks, President George W. Bush proclaimed Friday, September 14, 2001, as a National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for the Victims of the Terrorist Attacks on September 11, 2001. Later on October 25, Representative Vito Fossella and 22 co-sponsors, introduced this new holiday.
In observance of those who were lost on that day by flying the American flag at half-staff, and a moment of silence is observed to correspond with the attacks, beginning at 8:46am, the time the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.
