Aloha!
Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole is celebrated for his love and improvements for his people in Hawai'i. Prince Kuhio was born on Kauai n 1871 and later died in Waikiki, Oahu on January 7, 1922. 27 years later, we began to celebrate his life and his life's work starting in 1949.
Without Prince Kuhio we would not have our 1920 Hawaiian Homes Commission Act providing homesteads for native Hawaiians. He also requested that Hawai'i be admitted into America as a fully fledged state. Although he started this work to create a strong relationship with America, he was not able to see Hawai'i become the 50th state which occurred well past his death in 1959.
Me ke aloha, Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole. Mahalo no kāu hana.
